Acharya Nagarjuna University
Acharya Nagarjuna University is one of the largest universities and is located in Nagarjuna Nagar, i.e. the northern part of Guntur, a major hub of learning in the country. The educational jurisdiction of the University spreads across the districts of Guntur, Krishna and Prakasam affiliating more than 100 colleges. The university has been founded by Acharya Nagarjuna, a great Buddhist scholar, some centuries ago.
Presently, the University has around 40 academic departments which conduct Undergraduate, Post Graduate and research level courses on Engineering, Education, Law, Pharmacy and Oriental Languages courses. Self-financed courses act as an addition to the list.
The University has well-maintained hostels for the accommodation of students. Its library is a repository of knowledge and has a wide collection of documents which are useful for the students, faculty and research association of the University. All other necessary facilities like mess, post office etc have been arranged in the university premises.
The university is a progeny of a Post-Graduate Centre of Andhra University, established in 1967 at Guntur. The centre gained affiliation of a university in 1976 and is named after Acharya Nagarjuna, the pro-founder of the Madhyamaka path of Mahayana Buddhism.
