Dr.R.M.Alagappa Chettiyar was the founder of Alagappa University. He founded the university in the year 1985, in the town of Karaikudi. The campus of the university is spread across sprawling 420 acres. In 1992, the university established the Directorate of Distance Education. It offers different courses in the fields of computer applications, management, science, languages and education.

The university has a history of having excellent Vice-Chancellors. The present Vice-Chancellor is Dr.P. Kanniappan. He is an efficient administrator apart from being a well known academician. The university is growing steadily under his efficient leadership.

The scheme of examination of M.Sc. Information Technology is given below:

The duration of the course is two years. The eligibility for the course is any undergraduate degree in the 10+2+3 system. The medium of instruction is English only.

The list of subjects for the first year is given below:

1. Principles of Information Technology
2. Object Oriented Programming and C++
3. Operating System
4. Data Structures and Algorithms
5. Object Oriented DBMS
6. Lab I- C++
7. Lab II- data structures

The list of subjects for the second year is given below:

1. Internet Programming and Web Design
2. Software Engineering
3. Computer Networks
4. Multimedia Applications
5. Visual Programming
6. Lab III- Internet Programming
7. Lab IV- Visual Programming

Paper Pattern

All the exams are conventional types. Each exam carries 100 marks. The papers are divided into three sections with each section carrying different marks. there are 3 marks questions in first section, 10 marks questions in second section and 15 marks question in 3rd section. In each section candidates have to attempt different number of questions and they also get some choices in the papers.
