Ayurveda is considered as one of the oldest method of treatment in India. The natural herbs and minerals are the main ingredients in the ayurvedic medicines. Apart from the ayurvedic medicines and herbs, this medical field also includes various other treatment methods such as body massages, purification & detoxification, meditation and dietary changes.

In the present scenario, Ayurveda has got popularity among many tourists specially the foreign people. Since the ayurvedic medicines have no side effects, it is rapidly gaining global acceptance. With this improvement the need for ayurvedic professionals are also increasing gradually.

BAMS or the degree of “Ayurvedacharya” is awarded by various Ayurvedic institutions in the country. It is the bachelor’s degree programme with duration of five and half years or six and half years including an internship programme.

Selection Process for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery

Candidates are given admission to various ayurvedic colleges based on the rank obtained by them in the entrance examination organized by the concerned universities. The entrance examination for the BAMS includes All India Pre-Medical or Pre-Dental entrance examination which is the National level test. It is organized by CBSE for the admission of students in reputed ayurvedic institutions all over the country. Some universities in various states carry out their own entrance examinations for the admission. In such universities the students are given admission for BAMS based on the marks obtained by them in the 10+2 examinations and rank obtained in the concerned entrance test.

Eligibility for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery Exam

To join for the bachelor’s degree programme in this field, candidates should satisfy the eligibility criteria. They must have passed the higher secondary examinations or equivalent of recognized boards with PCB from any reputed institutions. Also they should have attained the age of 17 years to join for this course.

Some institutions in the country offer certification courses or the pre-ayurvedic course of one or two year duration. For such courses the candidates must have pursued a pass in the 10th examinations or Matriculation most preferably with Sanskrit or an equivalent examination.

Personal Skills required for the BAMS Course

The personal skills are most important for the professionals to perform in the ayurvedic field. They must have a strong control of concentration, caring nature, a responsible mind, confidence and brilliant communication skills. In addition to these they should have good counseling ability and should be able to take suitable decisions after assessing the relevant factors.

Reference books for 12th students for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery

Candidates can refer the books of 10+2 classes and the previous year question papers. They can also purchase these question papers available in the market or download from the internet. Various publishing centers provide good books on Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery. Students can buy them and refer those books. For more information about the reference books they can search in the internet.
