Cochin University, B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, 3rd Semester, Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer Papers
Paper pattern
The paper consists of ten main questions. These ten questions are further divided into many questions. These sub questions can also have further divisions. Out of these ten questions, the candidates are required to answer five questions. There is a choice between first and second, third and fourth, fifth and sixth and so on. The candidate is required to answer one of them. Hence, a total of five questions will be done by the candidate. Each question has numerical question or numerical derivation.
Distribution of marks
The maximum marks allotted for the paper is 100. There are ten questions, out of which five questions are to be done. The mark is divided equally among the five questions. The sub questions under each main question are divided according to its importance. Numerical questions are included in each main question. There are no fixed markings for any questions. The division of marks depends on individual main questions. Each main question carries 20 marks. This mark is further divided among sub questions but the division is not given on the question sheet.
Duration of the paper
The time allotted for the paper is three hours and each candidate is required to finish the paper within the allotted time. Candidates are given extra 15 minutes before the paper starts. This time is spent in reading the paper very carefully. The candidates are not allowed to pen anything during this time. This time should spend in making the choices very carefully. Any queries are to be cleared during this time.
About the subject
The subject lays emphasis on the principles of thermodynamics and heat transfer. There is theoretical part to the subject as well as numerical. The mathematical aspect is accompanied in each question. The subject has questions, numerical, definition, derivations and explanations. Every theorem has to be defined and derived as well. The subject deals with the laws of thermodynamics and heat transfer.
