As you are from Mechanical Engineering background it is more or less in line with the automobile engineering subjects, which in sense many subjects in both the course are similar and Automobile based companies do need candidates from Mechanical Engineering and that's the reason they allow Mechanical candidates for the placement process.

-> So all you have to do is to brush some little basics of Automobile Engineering and concentrate more on your core subjects.
