can anybody tell me that a student of b.tech 3rd can apply for a gate exam??????? I am a student of B.TECH (cse) 3rd year.i want to get a good rank in gate exam if i don't have a coaching for that, can i do this by self preparation.if so then how should i start this.....plz give me some suggestion ..

Because Your GATE score is elibinle for the 2 years.

Yes can do the self preparation.You can buy notes from Delhi & I suggest you a book GATE 2010 G.C Publications. These notes & books are sufficient for the pre paration.

Yes friend, You are eligible to apply for the GATE exam.

As you are in 3rd year of your B.tech course,you can surely apply for this exam.

If you have enough self confidence that you can crack the exam by self preparation you can go for it..

But at this stage i do think that you should take some coaching as you have left with so much little time..

Yes you can apply for GATE Exam and you must concentrate on your subjects which were taught you in college and revise 2nd,3rd,4th year course and also look the syllabus of gate be very concept based while solving problems dnt mug them up.

Yeah, you can very well apply and give a go for the GATE exam and you attend coming exam in feb 2011, because GATE score is valid for 2 years, and for clearing GATE exam you should have a sound knowledge in all your main subjects, so the best option would be to join some coaching centres, even if not, no problem, get good study materials of some standard authors and have a complete knowledge about it. ALL THE BEST

Yes, you are eligible for GATE exam. Any one can apply for GATE who is studying pre-final or final year student and you have unlimited chances to write GATE exam.

Since you are studying 3rd year CSE, you have golden oppurtunities to write GATE. You can prepare self for attending GATE exam because mostly the questions are asked from your 1st year and 2nd year CSE branch subjects. If you are good with those syllabus its quite easy to get a good rank.

Yes pre final year student are eligible to appear in gate. But can take admission after graduation.
Yes without coaching you can score good ranking in GATE for that you have to keep concept clear . Move towards destination step by step means dont start all subject simultaneously. First plan your syllabus and divide remaining period in such manner that you can cover most of the important portion of your syllabus.
No need to read whole syllabus without that you can still score good in GATE.
But dont skip important topics like Data structure, Theory of computation, operating system, DBMS, Computer networks, Digital logic and Aptitude.

And have to face same question in exam.
There is no variation for such thing.

Yes sure,you will be eligible for GATE when your in the third year because the score card of the GATE can be used for counselling for consecutive 2 years so you can appear for the GATE when your in the third year itself.

how many attempts does gate provide?

the eligibility criteria to appear in the 2012 GATE exam is as under:
Bachelor's degree holder in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and those who are in the final year of such area.
Until the last GATE exam (i.e. GATE 2011) students of 3rd year in the present academic year were able to sit and the Score was valid for 2 years. But now as per the new rules the students of 3rd year cannot appear in the exam.

before that B.Tech 3rd year students can appear in the GATE exam.

GATE exam is one of those tough exams in our country where competition is very high.
There is no short cut to success when you are giving a exam like GATE.
You should have a comprehensive knowledge of the subject that you studied during
four years of your engineering course. Also pay attention to solve ealier years
GATE papers.You should practice more and more in order to get a thorough understanding
of the paper pattern.Try to get some study material of some good coaching institute.
It will be helpful to understand the concepts of the subject.

NO , a third year student can not appear in gate exams as per new norms of gate in 2011. for more details on gate you can refer www.iitk.ac.in
for appearing in gate you must have to complete your b. tech or in the final year of your b.tech or equivalent.
for preparation of gate you may refer books of arihant and tmh publication.

It is to inform you that B.tech 3rd year(Pre-final) students are not eligible to apply for GATE{Graduate aptitude Test in Engineering}. You can apply for get when you are get entered in final year or after completing B.tech course.

Don't worry friend....to crack GATE, It is not necessary for you to join coaching classes. You can also do it by yourself means self preparation. So do not think anyways that without coaching you can not clear GATE.


You are in 3rd year now so it is good time to start your preparation for GATE. The Syllabus covered in GATE exam is related to all subject which you have studied during 3rd to 5th semester.
