CPT (Common Proficiency Test) is mandatory for candidates willing to pursue Chartered Accountancy course irrespective of his/her qualification. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India has made a proposal for giving exemption to graduates from the Common Proficiency Test but is yet to be approved by the Union Government. As per the Proposal, a commerce graduate must score a minimum of 55% marks in the final year examination and a non-commerce graduate must score atleast 60% marks in the final year examination to be considered eligible to get complete exemption from the Common Proficiency Test. However, as long a the proposal does not gets the required approval, candidates, irrespective of their qualification, has to qualify Common Proficiency Test in order to pursue Chartered Accountancy course.
