The Institute of Cost and Work Accountants of India is a professional body with the main aim of encouraging the use of scientific methods in cost and management accountancy. The Applied Direct Taxation paper as conducted by this institution is a significant one that has an objective of providing an in depth knowledge of direct tax law provisions and their applications.
What is taught in this paper?
This is an intermediate level paper that encompasses a comprehensive study on all types of direct taxes that include Securities Transaction Tax, Fringe Benefit Tax, Banking Cash Transaction Tax, Wealth Tax etc.This paper covers knowledge over various tax inducements and benefits under them. It also gives an insight on the procedure of filing tax returns and advance payment of taxes.This paper also throws light on direct tax laws and penalties, fines and prosecution.
How many Groups are in the paper?
The paper can be considered to be virtually divided into two sections. The first one is compulsory and the second one has choices.
What are the variations in the paper?
The paper comprises of 10 compulsory short questions of two marks each, followed by a compulsory 5 mark question. It is succeeded by a series of questions 15 marks each. Each of these questions can be differently divided into sub questions. Five of them are to be answered. The questions can be from any section covered by the syllabi but the sub questions are usually of same relevance.
How are marks distributed?
The total marks allotted to the paper are 100. There are 11 compulsory questions in the beginning of the paper, 10 are of 2 marks and 1 of 5 marks. The rest 75 marks come from 5 to-be-attempted questions, 15 marks each, out of 7 alternatives normally.
How much time is allotted for the paper?
The paper is of 3 hours duration i.e. 180 minutes.
