Is Diploma from IME, Mumbai equivalent to 3 years Graduation degree course?

I have completed 3 years Diploma course in Mechanical Engineering from Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IME), Mumbai. Now, I'm searching for jobs in Jammu and Kashmir where the companies are not accepting this Diploma. They are saying it is not equivalent to 3 years Graduation degree course. What should I do now?
