hi.... i am an electronics engg. by having some personal issues i managed to finish my degree in eight yrs. it ws quite tragic. bt i hv cmpleted two certificate courses in my vacant years.... like... networking frm HCL and automation frm Pune..... Actually after such vacant years i hv left very low confidence in me now.... Can anybody guide me properly. I hv 59% in degree. do i eligible for govt exams. Currently i am planning for doing lectureship in local polytechnic cllg.... as a side by side job. Bt i am not satisfied wid that. I only have an year left in my favour to decide my career......So if anyone guide me properly..... I wl b thankful.....

Electronics and Communication Engineers have two options in the government sector. They can either opt for the job in Public Sector Undertaking or appear for the Indian Engineering Service exam.

While there are other options like Civil Service Examination and banking job, they are not specifically for the B.tech graduates. Since you will be completed Engineering course, it would be better to apply for the jobs related to your field.


Indian Engineering Service

The first option for the electronics and communication engineer is Indian Engineering Service exam. IES is a annual exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on the behalf of central government.

The Indian Engineering Service exam is conducted to recruit engineers for various departments of the Union government.


Eligibility

1. You must be Indian citizen to apply.

2. A B.Tech degree in ECE from a recognized university.

3. There is no percentage criteria.

4. Final year students can also apply.

5. The age limit is 21 to 30 years for IES.

6. There is 3 years relaxation in upper age limit for OBC and 5 years for SC/ST candidates.



Public Sector Undertaking

PSU or the Public Sector Undertaking is a company which is controlled by the government of India. The Union govt is the major stakeholder in the Public Sector Undertaking. There are more than 150 such companies in the country at the moment.

These PSU companies also require engineering graduates for various jobs. That is why these companies issues a separate notification. You need to check the notification and see whether there is any vacancy for the Electronics and Communication Engineers.

On a certain date, PSU conducts a entrance exam to hire engineering students. Each company has its own date it also issues its notification separately on different dates. The job procedue includes written test followed by the interview.

Although not each PSU follows this procedure. Some have recently replaced written test with GATE entrance exam. They ask for the GATE score of the candidate while taking interview. Therefore you should also appear for the GATE entrance exam.


Eligibility

1. Only citizens of India can apply.

2. A B.tech degree is required from a recognized university.

3. At least 60 percent marks in B.tech.

4. There should be no pending backlogs.

5. A valid GATE score is also required.

6. The age limit to apply for PSU is 21 to 30 years.

7. The age limit is relaxed by 3 years for OBC.

8. SC/ST candidates are given 5 years relaxation.

There are many government jobs for Engineering Graduate in ECE .

If you want to join government job then you have to crack the examination and interview because the number of posts are very less the competition is quite high .

Hence you have to prepare for Government jobs if you want to get the job.

You can join Government companies like GAIL, BHEL , SAIL etc . These companies are owned by Central Government and they recruit Engineering graduates every year. To join these companies first requirement is 60% marks and then GATE score card. They hire on the basis of GATE score hence you should be GATE qualified.

There are other exams like Specialist Officer and IT officer in Banks. IBPS and SBI conduct exams for Specialist officer and IT officer every year. You can apply for these posts also if you want to join bank with your Engineering skills. The paper will be objective type and interview will be there after qualifying the paper.

There are exams like Engineering Services Exam conducted by UPSC . You can apply for this exam also if you want to join as engineering officer. The age limit for this exam is 21 to 30 years if you are general category . Age relaxation as per category is available.

The is also JTO exam which is also conducted by UPSC. JTO is Junior Telecom Officer .
You have to pass exam and interview to become a JTO.

As you are in 4th semester and till now you have not completed your Engineering(B.TECH/B.E).

Thus after completing your Engineering with 65% you will be eligible for appearing in the government exams in order to get jobs in government sectors.
