how can you starts 3phase motor?...Coud u please tell me the details for the asme

As 10HP rotary phase convertor I built to operate a few machine tools in my home shop. One of the machines is a automotive surface grinder with a 7.5 HP motor that is directly connected to a 16" grinding wheel. When I apply power to start this motor the shop lights dim a bit and the motor starts slowly (4-5 seconds). Once its up to full speed, the lights brighten up and the motor runs fine including when its grinding.

Like so many older industrial machines, the motor is very large, probably twice the physical size of my modern 10hp motor on my phase converter.
