Look there is no specific number to tell you that. Each college has different number of seats for the CST candidates. Since you have passed the diploma course in Engineering, you are looking at scenario where you will have to apply for B.Tech course via lateral entry scheme.

In case you don't know lateral entry scheme is provided to the diploma candidates and B.Sc graduates to get admission for the B.Tech course. Through lateral entry, candidate are given admission in the second year of B.Tech course.

The lateral entry scheme is very popular today and almost all the universities in India, apart from the IITs are offering lateral entry for the Engineering aspirants. There is no information about the number of seats under the lateral entry scheme. However what we know for sure is that colleges reserve at least 15 to 20 percent seats for the lateral entry scheme.

The admission process is also different for the lateral entry scheme. You can not appear in the IIT-JEE or AIEEE entrance exam. It is because 12th is the basic requirement to appear in these examinations.

The entrance exam for lateral entry is called LEET. Lateral Engineering Entrance Test (LEET) is a statewide exam for the lateral entry. You can appear for this exam to get admission in B.Tech. However some colleges conduct their own entrance exams while some universities would give admission based on your performance in the qualification course (diploma or B.Sc).

Eligibility

To appear in the LEET entrance exam candidate should score at least 60 percent marks in diploma course or the B.Sc.

The direct admission would be done based on your performance. Several universities give admission to candidates with 60 percent marks in diploma course. There are some colleges that would even give admission if scored 50 percent in diploma course. However there are very few such colleges.
