Graduate Mechanical Engineer/ Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering :

This 12 months course is offered to existing Graduates in Mechanical Engineeringwho wants to change their career path to marine Engineering .
The course is duly approved by the Directorate General of Shipping and Indian Maritime University. The syllabi comprises of subject related to Marine engines and extensive workshop practices.


Consequent to the course and on completion of the mandatory short courses one becomes eligible to take up a career at sea as a junior / trainee engineer. A minimum of 8 months of sea service is then required to be put in on board merchant vessels on completion of which the junior / trainee engineers become eligible to write Class IV Part ‘B’ examination (Class IV Part ‘A’ examination, being exempted on the strength of the Degree awarded). Thereafter a Class IV Certificate of Competency is awarded by the Mercantile Marine Department, Government of India. Subsequently, they become full fledged Engineer officers of Merchant Marineand are free to take up lucrative careers within the Shipping industry world-wide.


General FAQ' s

Eligibility :
B.Tech in Naval Architecture or BE in Mechanical Engineering from AICTE approved college or university with minimum 60% marks and at least 50% in English in either 10th or 10+2.. Must be fluent in written and spoken English.

Age :
Not exceeding 28 years on the date of commencement of training.

Medical Fitness :
Medically fit with eyesight 6/6, with or without external aids. Maximum power permitted ± 2.5. No colour blindness. All candidates have to pass complete medical examination and mandatory tests prior to joining IMI. IMI has a panel of qualified doctors and professional laboratories specialising in Merchant Navy regulations and requirements as per ILO Convention 147 Seafarer’s Medical Examination.


Selection Procedure :
IMI undertakes Aptitude, IQ, Reasoning and Psychometric tests followed by an interview. Direct sponsorship by shipping companies is also accepted.

Here are the details of Post Graduate Certificate Course in Marine Engineering course including duration, eligibility, admission criteria, selection procedure, course fees and syllabus.

The program will be conducted at the Tolani Maritime Institute campus at Induri and the duration of this program will be four months. The program would include courses in engineering, management and project work.

Eligibility Criteria:-

Degree in Mechanical or Marine Engineering. Sailing marine engineers with Certificate of Competency of Class IV or higher will also be eligible. The campus accommodation would be available, if required.

Fees:- Rs. 3 lakhs

Commencement and Duration:- Normaly the course commences on last Monday of August each year.
