Only systematic studies will help you clear this exam. First of understand the structure and pattern of these exams. You must begin with preparing for the prelims. This being an aptitude oriented test it is important that you solve sufficient number of problems in each of the areas. For the general knowledge make sure you read newspapers and journals regularly. Once you are thorough in these areas start preparing for the mains too.

Appreciations for your decision.
All you need to do become an IAS officer is explained to you in the step by step procedure. Have a look with at most concentration.

->After completing your Degree(MBBS) you need to wait for the Notification on Civil Service Examination.

->You have to apply for the examination after attaining the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria is you have to complete your degree and have the certificate in your hand while applying for this course and also you have to attain the age of 21 years.

->You will get hall ticket and examination center details through post.you have to get regular updates about it.

->All the above is one side of the coin. The other side is preparation. As you know this is one of the toughest exam in the country so you have to be well prepared before attempting or else you have to forget about it.

->The competition will be very high. Just like that preparation is not at all enough you have to prepare with soul concentration.

->you have to clear the three stage exam pattern that is first you need to clear CSAT a preliminary screening exam. Next in succession you have to clear the Mains Examination. Finally you need to clear Personal Interview round which will be tough for shy people and easy for Intellects.

->After completing all this procedure you will be given a rank based on the performance.

->With the help of this ranks only you will given a Service and cadre.

->After agreeing to the service you will be called for training.

->After successfully completing the training session you will be placed in your state cadre as a Junior Officer.

This is all about the procedure you have to face to become an IAS officer.

All the best

Regards

The eligibility for sitting in Civil services exam is a graduation degree in any discipline.
So it does not makes any diffrence which graduation degree you choose to do.
You can select those subject what you study in graduation in the mains examination of Civil services.
A good number of Engineers and doctors take civil services examination every year and succeed too.
But don't think that MBBS is best to take IAS exams later.
If really you are serious about civil services then better do simple graduation like Bsc etc.
And start preparing for IAS during graduation only.

Yes you are definitely eligible for IAS exam if you have passed MBBS. So don't worry about eligibility criteria and start your preparation for the examination.

Any Graduate (Technical or Non Technical) from a recognized University is eligible to apply for IAS examination.

Hence if you are opting for a Professional course like Engineering or Medical after 12th then don't worry you will be eligible for the IAS examination.

It is better to opt these professional courses because you can do your job along with the IAS preparation.
