If one doesn't attempt Group 2 he doesn't get exemption in Group 1 also?

I have completed my group 1 IPCC exams. I have registered for both groups but I am planning not to give second group since I haven't even started studying.
I have been hearing from many people that if one doesnt attempt group 2 , one doesn't get exemption in group 1 also.
Is it true ?
Will it affect my group 1?
