Posts are filled in following departments after passing the IAS exam: (i) Indian Administrative Service. (ii) Indian Foreign Service. (iii) Indian Police Service. (iv) Indian P & T Accounts & Finance Service, Group �A�. (v) Indian Audit and Accounts Service, Group �A�. (vi) Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Central Excise) Group 'A' (vii) Indian Defence Accounts Service, Group �A�. (viii) Indian Revenue Service, Group �A�. (ix) Indian Ordnance Factories Service, Group 'A' (Assistant Works Manager, Administration) (x) Indian Postal Service, Group �A�. (xi) Indian Civil Accounts Service, Group �A�. (xii) Indian Railway Traffic Service, Group �A�. (xiii) Indian Railway Accounts Service, Group �A�. (xiv) Indian Railway Personnel Service, Group �A�. (xv) Post of Assistant Security Officer, Group 'A' in Railway Protection Force. (xvi) Indian Defence Estates Service, Group �A�. (xvii) Indian Information Service (Junior Grade), Group �A�. (xviii) Indian Trade Service, Group "A" (GR.III) (xix) Indian Corporate Law Service, Group "A" (xx) Armed Forces Headquarters Civil Service, Group �B� (Section Officer�s Grade) As you can see that entry is most of the department is done in Group A level. You will be offered all india level seats in these departments after passing the IAS exam. |

dear friend,
The mainly department is given to the candidate after cracking IAS is: Indian Administrative Service. Indian Foreign Service. Indian Police Service. But starting post is not like DM,SP but the initial post will be ADM,DSP etc. & after some experience you will be promote quickly to DM,SP etc. good luck. |

IAS is a service, while the UPSC civil service exam is generally referred as IAS examination. after entry in the IAS and after completing a two year probation period, an IAS officer is first posted as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) or Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) in a district for a period of 2 years generally. later, he may be posted as Additional District Magistrate (ADM) / may be as Project Director, DRDA for about 2 years and after about 7-8 years of entry in the service, one becomes District Magistrate and Collector (DM)

A new IAS officer is posted as CEO [Chief Executive Officer] of Group B Municipality till the time of 2 years when he is on probation. On completion of 2 years of compulsory probation, he is posted as Commissioner of Group A municipality or as sub-divisional/circle officer.

Though as a career it is lucrative, but it's always depends on persons type. Do you think Sachin Tendulkar or A R Raheman can ever been IAS? But they certainly best in their field of choice. If you are passionated about it, go ahead. Otherwise it's better to choose the field for career you are interested in rather than what holds power and bla bla bla

The eligible ias winners will be initially posted as junior scale officers may be in
1. State secretariat 2. Field officers 3. District magistrate They get initial appointment as sub collector after training starting the 2 year probationary period |
