The National Eligibility Test-NET is not required to pursue PhD but is mandatory to be considered eligible for the post of lecturer in colleges and universities in India.
In order to pursue PhD, you need to hold a masters degree with a minimum of 55% marks in the relevant discipline.
Apart from A masters degree, you need to have a overall good academic record.
Work experience is the relevant field also adds value to the eligibility of the candidate for pursuing PhD.

The NET exam is not require for join or complete the PhD. The UGC has announced that the eligibility for the teaching in college is complete PhD or passed in NET, SLET.
