CAT Exam Eligibility Criteria:-

~Full form of CAT is Common Admission Test and this exam is conducted by IIMs, one of the topmost institutions which every MBA aspirants aim for. To get into this institution CAT is the only entrance exam which you need to break. Apart from the IIMs, CAT score is also accepted by other autonomous private institutions too. No other university will accept its score.

~To sit for the CAT Exam firstly you need to complete your graduation in any discipline from a recognized university with not less than 50% of marks.

~For the reserved category candidates there is percentage relaxation. SC/ST candidates needs to be secure 45% of marks at graduation level.

~Final year students about to sit for their final exam or awaiting the result of their final exam can also sit for this exam.

~There is no proper syllabus as such to follow for this exam. The exam is mainly objective type and you will face mainly conceptual questions in the exam.

~You will get only two and a half hours to complete the whole paper and this exam will basically test your analytical skills. So you should give your 100%.

~The exam is followed by group discussion and personal interview session. The final decision will be taken by considering the marks you have got in all the three stages of selection.

~For the exam stress on the following areas: Verbal Ability, Reading Comprehension, Problem Solving and Data Interpretation.

~There is negative marking, which means 1/4th marks will be deducted from the original score for every wrong answer you give. So unless and until you are fully sure do not attempt a question. Wild guessing may backfire you.

FORMAT OF CAT

Q.1) I hear that CAT will be held online. Is that correct?

Ans. CAT is a computer-based test (CBT) and not an Internet-based test (IBT) i.e. a candidate does not take the test on an Internet site. Instead of reading the questions in a paper booklet and darkening the ovals on the answer-sheet, a candidate will read the questions on a computer terminal and choose an answer by clicking on the correct option.

Q.2) How is the computer-based format different from the paper-based format?

Ans. The format of the test is more or less the same except that a candidate reads a question on a computer terminal and clicks on the correct answer, instead of reading on a paper booklet and using a pencil to darken the ovals on an answer sheet.

Q.3) Can I take the test from any computer?

Ans. No. A candidate will have to test on a pre-assigned workstation and will not have a choice to choose his or her workstation, in the testing venue chosen by him/her during the time of registration.

Q.4) What does a CBT test looks like?

Ans. A CAT practice test is available on the website www.catiim.in for candidates to get familiarised with the functionality and navigation of the actual test.
