No the syllabus for the IAS and IPS prelmnarry has been changed. your first paper will be general studies and the second paper will be general english.

Yes My friend, IPS is Indian Police Service which is an Entry through Civil Service Exam mode.

If you clear the Civil Service Exam then you will be called for Next Level which is Interview, if you clear it again. Then you will be An IPS Officer.

So, it concludes you that IPS syllabus is Nothing but Civil service Exam syllabus.

The Civil Service examination has been divided into three satges
Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT)
Main Examination
Interview

CSAT Syllabus:
Paper 1
Current events of national and international importance
History of India and Indian national movement
Indian and World Geography- physical, social, economic geography of India and the world
Indian Polity and governance – constitution, political system, panchayati raj, public policy, Rights issues, etc.
Economic and social development – sustainable development, poverty, inclusion, demographics, social sector initiatives etc.
General issues on environmental ecology, bio-diversity and climate change
General science.

Paper 2
Comprehension
Interpersonal skills including communication skills
Logical reasoning and analytical ability
Decision making and problem solving
General mental ability
Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude etc. (Class X level),

Syllabus for the Main exam
The compulsory subjects for the Main exam are one Indian language, English, Essay and General studies.
As far as optional papers are concerned, you will have to choose any two subjects out of the following list
Agriculture Mathematics, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Mechanical Engineering Botany, Medical Science, Chemistry, Philosophy, Civil Engineering, Physics, Commerce,Political Science ,Economics ,Psychology Electrical Engineering Public Administration, Geography, Sociology, Geology, Statistics, Indian,History, Zoology,Law.

How to apply:-You have to apply for UPSC (Union Public Services Commission) exam.

This time UPSC pattern is changed and it is called as CSAT which is coming into effect from Civil Services Examination, 2011.and so there is no option subjects...


It consits of two paper and each paper of Two hrs..


(Paper 1) (200 marks) consists of

• Current events.
• History
• Geography
• Indian Polity and governance
• Economic and social development
• and General science.

In case you have not not got a good rank and got into IFS, IAS or IPS, you may still become a Group A or B officer in the Central Govt.

The civil services exam popularly known as IAS exam is conducted by upsc every year.It is combined exam to recruit officers into IAS,IPS,IFS,IRS,ITRS and several others groups of central services.

Yes, the syllabus for both IPS & IAS exam is the same. Actually recruitment of both IAS & IPS officers are done through a common exam called civil services exam conducted by UPSC.
