VAO stands for Village Administrative Officer. To recruit these officers notifications is released by the Tamilnadu Public Service Commission whenever there is a vacancy. This year there were about 1870 vacancies to fill for which exam is due in September.

TNPSC VAO Exam Eligibility Criteria:

1. To sit for the TNPSC VAO Examination you need to have the secondary school leaving certificate. In other words you need to be a 10th pass out minimum to sit for this exam as that is the minimum qualification required for this post.

2. If you have higher qualifications than that then also you will be eligible to sit for this exam provided you have the S.S.L.C certificate to show. Your higher degrees will be rejected if you do not have this certificate to show.

3. Irrespective of what your category is the minimum age limit or the lower age limit to sit for this exam is 18 years. The upper age limit for general category candidates is 30 years.

4. There is age relaxation for the reserved category candidates. For SC/ST and other such reserved category candidates the upper age limit is 40 years.

5. This exam is conducted in Tamilnadu and the officers selected will be posted in the villages of Tamilnadu. So it is very important for the selected candidates to know Tamil language properly as otherwise they wont be able to communicate properly with the villagers.

6. Even if you do not know Tamil language it does not means you will be prevented from sitting for this exam. You just need to pass the Tamil language exam then which is also conducted by the TNPSC within two years from the date of selection.

7. Only physically fit candidates are expected to give the exam. Therefore you have to produce medical fitness certificates before the authorities concerned during examination time to prove your medical fitness.

8. Selection procedure is solely based on the written examination. So its importance is unparalleled and you should try your best to score good marks to stay in contention. Other parameters which are also given undue importance are the district chosen by you and the reservations of the district in question.

9. The exam comprises of two sets of question papers basically and the marks allotted per question paper is 150 marks each which means the total marks allotted for the exam is 300 marks and you need to complete the whole paper in three hours. In order to qualify you have to manage 90 marks in the exam.

10. Questions for the exam will come from the three sections basically:

A. General Knowledge
B.General English/General Tamil.

The first paper is bilingual so you will have the option to answer in the language you are most comfortable in. The second paper is optional and your preference needs to be stated in the application paper itself and not during examination time. Questions will be of S.S.L.C. standard.

11. It should be remembered that out of the total seats vacant generally 30% of it is kept reserved for women, 5% for ex-servicemen and 3% for physically handicapped students. If they are unable to get 30% of women for to fill the reserved vacant seats then that amount of seats will be filled up by male candidates.

12. Although this year's application process is already over but generally the application process for this exam is carried online. The amount payable by the general candidates is Rs. 125 and for reserved category candidates it is Rs. 50. This fee can be either paid online through credit or debit card or by going to specific post offices and branches of Indian Bank.
