Syllabus of upsc exam for computer engineering students

The first thing I would like to make clear here is that UPSC stands for Union Public Service Commission and the name suggest it is a commission not a examination. But at the same time in general people use UPSC examination specifically to refer to the Civil Services examination.

Also, I would like to let you know that in the Civil Services examination there is no option of Computer Science engineering to be opted as an optional subject.

The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) exam is a highly competitive exam in India that recruits candidates for various civil services positions in the country. The exam consists of three stages - Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. Here is a general syllabus for the UPSC exam:

Preliminary Exam Syllabus:

Paper I: General Studies

• Current events of national and international importance
• History of India and Indian National Movement
• Indian and World Geography
• Indian Polity and Governance
• Economic and Social Development
• Environmental Ecology, Biodiversity, and Climate Change
• General Science

Paper II: CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test)

• Comprehension
• Interpersonal skills including communication skills
• Logical reasoning and analytical ability
• Decision-making and problem-solving
• General mental ability
• Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) and Data Interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency, etc.)

Mains Exam Syllabus:

Paper A: Indian Language (qualifying paper)

• Comprehension
• Usage and vocabulary
• Short essay
• Precis writing

Paper B: English (qualifying paper)

• Comprehension
• Usage and vocabulary
• Short essay
• Precis writing

Paper I: Essay

• Candidates will be required to write an essay on a specific topic

Paper II: General Studies I

• Indian Heritage and Culture
• History and Geography of the World and Society

Paper III: General Studies II

• Governance, Constitution, Polity, Social Justice, and International relations

Paper IV: General Studies III

• Technology, Economic Development, Biodiversity, Environment, Security, and Disaster Management

Paper V: General Studies IV

• Ethics, Integrity, and Aptitude

Paper VI: Optional Subject Paper I

• Candidates can choose one optional subject from the list of approved subjects

Paper VII: Optional Subject Paper II

• Candidates can choose one optional subject from the list of approved subjects

Interview (Personality Test):

Candidates who qualify for the mains exam will be called for an interview.
The interview will assess the candidate's intellectual curiosity, critical powers of assimilation, balance of judgment, and awareness of current affairs.
The interview will also assess the candidate's suitability for a career in public service.
