An Archaeologist can earn around Rs. 15,000 – Rs. 20,000 per month initially if employed by the Archeological Survey of India. The pay scale for lecturers is approximately Rs. 20,000 per month at the beginning of their career. The candidates who possess a Doctorate in Archaeology could earn Rs. 30,000 per month or more depending on skills and experience in this field.
The roles you would be perfect for include heritage manager, museum education or exhibitions officer, museum curator, historic buildings inspector or conservation officer, archivist, cartographer, social researcher or tourism officer.
It is preferable for candidates to have a background of ancient history and culture. The basic eligibility criteria for Bachelor course in History/ Archaeology (i.e B.A level) of three-year duration, is 10+2 or equivalent. After graduation one can opt for a Post graduate Diploma or Degree course in Archaeology.
