Hi

There is a lot of difference between the IAS and the IPS Exams. I think that you have got confused between the two so I am going to elaborate a bit on both these exams so that you come to know the actual difference between them. At first lets take IAS :-

IAS - Indian Administrative Services
This is the toughest post graduation entrance exam in our country and is done by the name of CSAT i.e Civil Services Aptitude Test. Its done in various disciplines and you should be very thorough in all of them. I am giving you a link where you can get all the IAS subjects and choose them very wisely. Click Here to get a list of the IAS subjects.

IPS - Indian Police Services
This is also a very tough entrance and also aspired by many of the candidates. This is basically for the recruitment purpose of candidates for the various Class I officer posts in the Police Services country wide.

You would be interested to know that both these exams are conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission). It conducts a lot of exams every year for the various occasions and posts. Click here to visit the UPSC Website for more details.

Talking of the Eligibility Criteria for both of them, you should be a minimum graduate in ANY stream from a recognized college or university board in India. Also age should be within 21-30 years for GEN, 33 for OBC and 35 for the SC/ST candidates. There are attempt limits of 4 for GEN, 7 for OBC and Unlimited for the SC/ST as well..

Thus hope you get to know enough information about the same and now you should decide which one should you go for..

All the best
Regards

IAS - Indian Administrative Service, the candidate selected as IAS officer is responsible for the administration department of the Government.

IPS - Indian Police Service, the candidate selected as IPS officer is responsible for the Law and Order situation of a State.

To become an IAS/IPS officer one has to crack Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.
