Hi, could anybody brief me about the difference between International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE Board) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE Board)? Which Board is better and have broader scope and opportunities?

IGCSEs are the world’s most popular international qualifications for 14 to 16-year-olds. They are your gateway to higher education or professional studies,where the student can choose from more than 70 different subjects – from maths to English. Available subjects vary depending on your school, country..

Whereas, The Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) is an examination conducted by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination, a private board of secondary education in India.

Students of ICSE Board have to study six subjects divided into three Groups 1(comprises compulsory subjects), Group 2( choose any 2 subjects out of 4 options) and Group 3 (choose only one subject out of 11 options) where as The core subjects under the IGCSE are:First Language,Second Language,Mathematics,One or more Sciences subjects.


The ICSE is a national level exam offered in India while IGCSE is an international standard curriculum.

-Each board has its own importance ,value and working functions.
-Student looking for overall grooming ,language skills development can go for ICSE ,students willing to study an international curriculum with wide acceptability then go for IGCSE board.
