Drug Inspector is a very important job which is related to health of each and every single Indian. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1945 made it necessary for the centre and all the state government to recruit drug inspector. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act also gave powers to the drug inspector which he can use time to time for the health and safety of Indian citizens.

So what is the responsibility of drug inspector. Well he has to ensure that all the rules and legal standards that are set by government of India for drugs and cosmetics are being practiced at places where either these items are manufactured, stored or sold. It is necessary to meet the government rules otherwise strict action can be taken against the people.

Drug Inspector can visit these places and check the standards related to sanitation, purity and grading to ensure that rules are being followed. Today according to a survey, around 10 percent medicines in Indian markets are fake that are potentially harmful to all of us. It is the responsibility of drug inspector to conduct raid and take off such medicines from the market.

He has the power to take the sample of any drug and send it for laboratory testing. If the sample failed to meet the government guidelines, strict action could be taken. Now you can understand how critical is the role of drug inspector. This is why both central and state governments recruit drug inspector through a entrance exam. The responsibility to conduct this exam is given to State Public Service Commission and Union Public Service Commission.
