Re: What is simple harmonic motion and what are its components
SHM (Simple Harmonic Motion)
Simple Harmonic Motion is a kind of periodic motion in which particle moves to and fro repeatedly about a constant postion. > The magnitude of restoring force acting in it is directly proportional to the displacement of the particle from that constant position. or, in simple words, SHM is a periodic motion in which a body repeats its motion after regular time intervals. * Components of SHM : 1. Displacement. It is the distance of the particle from mean position. 2. Amplitude. It is maximum displacement on either side of mean position. 3. Velocity. It is the time rate of change of displacement. 4. Acceleration. It is the time rate of change of velocity. 5. Time Period. It is the time taken by the particle to complete one vibration. You can about SHM in details in some physics books like concepts of physics by H. C. Verma part I or Pradeep's fundamental physics class XI Vol II or NCERT Physics Class XIth. |

Re: What is simple harmonic motion and what are its components
HELLO,
Simple harmonic motion is a type of periodic motion where the restoring force is directly proportional to the displacement. Simple harmonic motion is typified by the motion of a mass on a spring when it is subject to the linear elastic restoring force given by Hooke's Law. The motion is sinusoidal in time and demonstrates a single resonant frequency. In order for simple harmonic motion to take place, the net force of the object at the end of the pendulum must be proportional to the displacement. Simple harmonic motion provides a basis for the characterization of more complicated motions through the techniques of Fourier analysis. Re: What is simple harmonic motion and what are its components
Simple Harmonic motion is considered as type of periodic motion in physics. It is a to and fro motion of vibrations which is closely related to circular motions. It includes the motion of molecular vibration and simple pendulum. Simple Harmonic motion will occur when an object in the end of a pendulum’s net force is proportional to displacement. For more information students can refer Principles of Physics, Classical dynamics of particles and systems etc.
