In general admission in Ph.D. in NITs or IITs are offered through GATE or UGC NET papers and the syllabus for these examinations can be downloaded from the links https://gate.iitk.ac.in/gate_syllabus.html and https://www.ugcnetonline.in/syllabus-new.php.

Further, Ph.D. admissions are quite flexible in nature and one can even directly approach a professor of his/her liking with a good research proposal and if professor is satisfied with the research proposal and knowledge of the applicant, he/she can allow the Ph.D. admission of that candidate through flexible approach.
