NET stands for National Eligibility Test which is conducted by the University Grants Commission.

Those Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks in Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities / institutions recognized by UGC are eligible for this Test.

There is no age criteria for LS post but for JRF post , your age should be below 28 years .

So if you are fulfilled the above mentioned criteria then you are eligible for UGC NET exam .

Being a 40 years old candidate you are eligible for Lectureship post, but not for Junior Research Fellowships post.

National Eligibility Test (NET Exam) entrance exam conducted by University Grants Commission for Junior Research Fellowships post and Lectureship post.

The Applicant must have completed or should be pursuing a Master’s degree in subjects specified by UGC.

The Applicant age must not be above 28 years of age and 5 years relaxation is given to SC/ST/OBC/ Physically Handicapped candidates. There is no age limit for Lectureship post.

So, you are eligible for Lectureship post after completing Ph.d in the environmental sciences course.
