It includes major components of demography (aim, scope, and significance), theories of population (maltnusian, demographic transition, multiphasic response, and economic decision), India’s population structure, growth and its causes, mortality, natality, population density, population distribution, migration types. Present trends in world population, problems of developed and developing societies, effects of high growth rate on the standards of living, employment, health, education, housing and other activities, population policy (India), family welfare, family planning, medical termination of pregnancy, psychological and socio-religious obstacles towards the implementation of family planning programme should be covered.

Paper Pattern: In the question paper, out of 5 questions, choice will not be provided for first and last question. 2, 3 and 4 questions will have an alternative choice. Hence, 5 questions should be attempted and each carries 14 marks on its head. They are subjective type and subdivided.

Time allotted and Maximum Marks: Duration of exam is 3 hours and the maximum marks allotted are 70.

Key Points: One or two generalized questions can be expected. Mentioning correct statistics would fetch you good marks.
