G.M. Law College, Puri
G.M. Law College, Puri came into existence in the year 1981 and the college is offering law education with affiliation from the Utkal University. Until 1996, the college was temporarily affiliated to the Utkal University and it earned permanent affiliation in the year 1996. The college got recognition from UGC under section 2(f) and under section 12(b) in the year 1996. It is an unaided institution accredited with B grade status from the NAAC.
Course details:
G.M. Law College offers Bachelor of Law (LL. B) course with affiliation from the Utkal University. This course is divided into three years and the first year is called as pre-law, second year course is called as inter-law and the third year course is called as final-law. The institute is approved with an intake capacity of 240 students per year for the pre-law course and of the total number of seats 1%, 7.5% and 15% are reserved for PH, ST and SC candidates respectively. In the process of admission, weightage will be given to women candidates and candidates with good sports record.
Eligibility requirement and admission procedure:
Candidates, who have secured not less than 40% of marks in the degree examination in any discipline are eligible to apply to the Bachelor of Law course offered by G.M. Law College. Admission of students is done based on the merit secured by them in the qualifying examination.
Fee for admission:
According to the academic year 2010-2011, the fee collected by the G.M. Law College for the pre-law course was Rs.5000, for re-admission to inter-law course it was Rs.3000 and for re-admission to the final year course, it was Rs.3000/-. However, this fee structure might differ from one year to another.
Scholarships:
The state government of Orissa offers Post-Matric scholarships to the students belonging to the physically handicapped and SC/ST community and scholarships are offered to candidates with sports background as well.
Student activities:
To ensure personality development of the students through community service, the college is operating two NSS units. In addition, other associations like athletic club, dramatic association and students’ union are also functioning in the college.
