Immunology is the branch of Medicine which studies the human immune system. Immunologists are the doctors who study the different functions of immune system and treat patients who are suffering from various immunological disorders like asthma, allergic reactions, eczema, sinusitis, autoimmune diseases, and immunodeficiency conditions. They examine the patients and record their medical history. Then they perform skin tests and blood tests to diagnose the disease. They will discuss the test results with the patients and their family and determine the treatment for the disease. Their treatment includes injections, medication and allergen immunotherapy. They will also give counseling to the patients about various methods to prevent allergies.

Qualifying Exam

To become an immunologist, one should complete MBBS degree from any institute recognized by Medical Council of India. Apart from this degree, one should complete MD degree in General Medicine to practice as an immunologist in any health care organization. Those who join any hospital after completing MD degree course in General Medicine should obtain adequate experience in the field of immunology. Then only they can pursue their career as a successful immunologist.

Who are eligible to apply?

To join MBBS degree course, one should pass their plus two examination with the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology. After passing this examination, one can either write All India level entrance test or State level entrance test to get admission to MBBS course offered at various institutes. They can also write the entrance test conducted by a particular institute offering MBBS course. MD degree course in General Medicine is a three year post graduate course in Medicine. Therefore the candidates who want to pursue this course should complete their MBBS degree course before applying for the entrance test conducted for the admission to postgraduate courses. Candidates should complete their MD degree course in General Medicine from an institute recognized by Medical Council of India.
