This university is named after the person who has been the leading persons to look up to when it comes to the identity India has today. One of the most iconic personalities in the arena of international politics, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, this university’s establishment has been dedicated to him by naming the university after his name. The Jawaharlal Nehru agricultural university was established and came into existence on the 2nd October 1964. The university came to the academic front by the Smt. Indira Gandhi, the minister for Information and broadcasting then. This university is located in the city of Jabalpur in the center of the India’s heart i.e. the state of Madhya Pradesh.

This university has achieved amazing feats when it comes to the advancements in the field of agriculture and more so the university has been constantly working towards the improvements by means of its agricultural, veterinary & animal husbandry and agricultural technology colleges associated to the university. With 9 of these institutions and further 9 zonal centers along with 18 agricultural centers and 16 regional centers, the university covers all the 9 agro- climatic zones of the surrounding 45 districts from the city of Jabalpur.

The campus of the university majorly dedicated to the agricultural practice and research work is spread over 1966 Hectares in which the major chunk of around 1250 Hectares is dedicated to the seed quality production and monitoring and other agricultural measures and research.

There are two faculty departments of the university under which the courses are offered, these faculty departments include: Agriculture including horticulture, agronomy, food science and technology, forestry, entomology etc. and the other is agriculture technology involving the engineering principles of the agriculture like mathematic statistics, farm machinery and power etc.

The university offers 3 types of courses in both the faculty departments that are maintained by the university. These courses fall under the categories of under graduate courses, post graduate courses and finally the doctorate programs involving the ongoing research work carried by the university primarily in the agriculture based domain.
