Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology was established under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India. The institute is set up in the District Rae Bareli, Uttar Pradesh under the Act of Parliament. The institute has the power to award degrees in its own right. The institute is famous for being the energy domain specific institute co-promoted by six leading Oil Public Sector Units (ONGC, IOCL, OIL, GAIL, BPCL and HPCL) in association with the Oil Industry Development Board (OIDB). The main objective of the institute is to provide world class education and research to meet the growing requirements of the Petroleum and Energy sector.
