Manipur is one of the north eastern states in India with rich flora and fauna. In older days, education was the privilege of only the elites in Manipuri Society. Manipur Institute of Technology, Takyelpat - This is the only government engineering college in Manipur which was commenced in the year 1998. It is affiliated to Manipur University and was formerly called Government College of Technology.  It has become the constituent college of Manipur University in the year 2005 with the ‘Manipur University Act 2005’. This institute has been offering Bachelor of Engineering courses in Civil, Computer Science and Electronics and Communication.

Government Polytechnic, Imphal - Adimjati Shiksha Ashram has established this polytechnic college in the year 1956. But in 1972, Manipur government took over this institute and gave the so called name, Government Polytechnic, Imphal. This Polytechnic College has got affiliation from Manipur University in the year 1987.Even though this institute has been offering three year diploma courses in various streams of engineering since its commencement, Diploma in Pharmacy and Diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering has started only after 1993. This institute has got a wide campus which spread over 20 acres with academic blocks, laboratories and workshops.

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, Imphal - This institute was formerly known as DOEACC Centre, Imphal and was established in the year 1974. Several short term and long term courses have been offered by this institute in the areas of Information Technology and Electronics Engineering. Diploma in Electronics Engineering (DEE) and Diploma in Computer Science and Engineering (DCSE) are the most important long term courses among them. Short term courses impart the required technical skills to the aspirants so as to find a career opportunity in any particular field related to Information Technology and Electronics Engineering.

Manipur Institute of Management Studies (MIMS), Imphal - Manipur has got only one management institute known as Manipur Institute of Management Studies, Imphal.  Manipur University has established this institution in the year 1995. Only Master of Business Administration course and Ph.D program in Management are offered by this institute.
