Marathwada Krishi Vidyapeeth is the Marathwada Agricultural University and this university is shortly called as MAU. The university is one among the four agricultural universities in the state established in the year 1972 on the 18th of May for fulfilling the regional aspirations of the agrarian growth. The university is mandated with the responsibility of providing education and related fields, to undertake research and to facilitate transfer of technology in the Marathwada region in the state of Maharashtra. The first agricultural college under the university came into existence in the year 1956 by the state government of Hyderabad just before the reorganization of the state.

The university was established under land pattern and except some industrialization around Nanded and Aurangabad, the whole region has rural settings. Jurisdiction of MAU is spread over eight districts of the states of Maharashtra namely Parbhani, Osmanabad, Nanded, Latur, Jalna, Hingoli, Beed and Aurangabad. The university offers education in agriculture, home science, agricultural biotechnology, food science, agricultural engineering and horticulture. The university has eight colleges under its control for offering courses in these subjects. For getting into the different courses offered by the MAU at the UG level, candidates must have completed their higher secondary with physics, chemistry, biology and English subjects. As far as PG courses are concerned, candidates must have completed their degree course in appropriate discipline and for Ph. D in agriculture and home science courses, candidates must have completed their PG degree in appropriate subjects. In addition to offering education, the university is also engaged in research activities in the following areas animal science, food technology, crop protection technology, seed technology, fruit and vegetable production technology, crop production technology and crop improvement.
