National Institute of Health and Family Welfare was established as an apex technical institute under the Government of India. The institute was funded by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The institute actually came into existence in the year 1977 as a result of the merging of National Institute of Health Administration and Education and National Institute of Family Planning. The major objective objective behind its establishment was to promote the health and family welfare programmes in the country.
