Lala Ram Sarup Institute of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Diseases was established in the year 1952. The hospital was actually established by Tuberculosis Association of India. The hospital was later upgraded by Government of India into an autonomous institute. The institute comes under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. It is a registered society which comes under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The chairman of the institute is Union Secretary of Health & Family Welfare. The major function of the institute is to promote the national tuberculosis control programme in the country.
