S.V. Agricultural College, Tirupati:
S.V. Agricultural College was formed in the year 1961 on the 21st of October under Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University. Initially, when the college was formed, it was started with four year degree course on B. Sc Agriculture with a student strength of 80. Intially, the college was affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University and it was brought under Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University only in the year 1964. Later in the year 1968, the college introduced two year Master of Science in agriculture and in ten more important disciplines of education in a slow, but in a steady manner.
Location of the college:
The S.V. Agricultural College is situated in Tirupathi at the sacred feet of the Tirumala hills and it is spread over an area of 370 acres. It is located in the district of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh.
Courses:
S.V. Agricultural College is offering under-graduation, post-graduation and doctoral programmes with course duration of four, two and three years respectively. These courses are offered under different branches like plant physiology, social science & agril. Chem, Agril. Economics, entomology, genetic & plant breeding, extension education, plant pathology and agronomy. For under-graduation courses, each year comprises of two semesters, making eight semesters. The duration of Post-graduation programme is four semesters and for Doctoral Programmes it is six semesters.
Objectives:
The college was formed with the objective of assisting in the process of transfer of technology through the dissemination of knowledge by joining hands with the Government Extension department. The college also strives to find new technologies so as to increase the production in agriculture and related sectors. The college also aims at training the human resources required for agricultural sector so that development can be brought about in the state as well.
