Master of dental surgery in PERIODONTOLGY deals with the structure, diseases and condition of teeth. The tissues supporting the teeth are known as Periodontium.  The diseases of these tissues are known as Periodontitis. Specialization in the treatment of these diseases is main objective of this degree program.

Paper pattern:

The paper of PERIODONTOLOGY- Pathology, Microbiology and Immunology by Dr. M.G.R. Medical University is a conceptual paper having both objective as well as subjective type of questions. The no. of objective type of questions is 20 whereas 4 subjective questions are in the paper. All the questions in the paper are compulsory and don’t have any alternative. The last question in the paper is short notes writing. The other three questions in the paper are of long answers type. The paper demands a good knowledge and candidates are also required to draw the diagram related to any question.

In the paper of PERIODONTOLOGY, The questions asked are conceptual and descriptive. In the objective questions section, answers should be given in one word or in one line. In the subjective section, questions from nutrition, Inflammation and repair, necrosis and degeneration, short notes on general bacteriology, virology, and mycology is asked frequently. Questions on applied microbiology, oral microbiology, properties of viruses and lab investigations are asked in the long answer type question.

Total Marks and time allotted:

Maximum marks allotted to the whole paper are 100 and time allotted for this paper is 3 hours. For the objective section, 20 marks are allotted and it is to be submitted within 20 minutes whereas the subjective section should be solved within 2 hours and 40 minutes and marks allotted to this section are 80.
