Established in the year 1974 the University of Hyderabad is an important institution for research and post graduation degree. The university acquired a five star rating accredited by NAAC (National accreditation and assessment council of India.

Spread over a two thousand three hundred acres area the university offers many facilities along with the post graduation and research course of Humanities, Science and Commerce. The Library of university of Hyderabad is named after Indira Gandhi as Indira Gandhi Memorial Library is providing support to students with books, journals, monographs, maps, magazines etc. Apart from the memorial library the university has a well equipped computer centre with internet facilities provided and the university also has a central instruments laboratory for its students.

The entrance exam for some Post Graduation degree course will consist of a 100 marks written examination. This criteria works for all colleges except for those offered by sorijini naidu school.

There are various centers in the university namely centre for cognitive science, University centre for earth and space sciences, centre for modeling simulation and design, advanced centre for research in high energy materials, centre for health psychology, centre for integrated studies, centre for Buddhist studies. The research institutes include Institute of life sciences, AMDISA (association of Management development institution in south Asia), C R Rao institute for advanced research in mathematics statistics and computer science.

The university course follows the simple semester wise pattern with each semester of 16 to 18 weeks. The university offers medals to its meritorious students that are named as Donor medals which are over 36 in number (and some SC & ST Medals).
