Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate College was established in the year 1966 by the Adarsh Shikshan Samiti with the view of meeting the higher education requirements of the people of rural area in which the college is located. The University Grants Commission has identified Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate College as the college with the potential for excellence. It is affiliated to Rani Durgavati University located at  Jabalpur and holds B+ grade from the NAAC.

The laboratories at Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate College are setup with the objective of helping the learners and to offer them with the facilities to become advanced research scholars. The laboratories functioning in the college are provided with modern and sophisticated devices and the departments like zoology, botany, electronics, physics, chemistry, microbiology and computer science have their own laboratories with all essential facilities for effective learning and teaching.

The library of the college contains all standard textbooks as recommended by the affiliating university for different courses. The library is provided with photocopier facility in such a way that students can take copies from the required reference materials.
