Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi) has an urban campus which is spreaded in an area of 320 acres. Mr. Surendra Prasad is the Director of the institute. Initially, the institute was named College of Engineering and Technology, Delhi. The institute was established in the year 1961 as a education and research institution. There are approximatley 2900 students studying under graduate courses in the institute. The foundation stone of the institute was laid by HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The institute was inaugurated by Professor Humayun Kabir.
