Master of dental surgery deals with the problems and care of teethes. An important branch of dental surgery is PERIODONTOLOGY, which deals with the problems related to the tissues supporting the teeth, which are known as Periodontium. The course makes the students specialized in treatment, prevention and maintenance of the teeth.

Paper Pattern:

The paper of PERIODONTOLOGY-Treatment, Preventive and Maintenances is a conceptual paper; questions asked are need to be answered accurately. Paper consist both objective as well as subjective section. Total number of objective type questions are 20 and number of subjective questions are 4 in the paper. There is no alternative of any question in the paper and every question has to be attempted. Last question in the paper is of short notes. The other three questions are long answer type answers. Candidates appearing for the paper should have good knowledge as the paper is very conceptual.

Questions in the paper are both subjective as well as objective; the objective section needs to be answered in one word. Questions asked in the paper are on different topics such as Basic applied diagnosis, pathology, microbiology, Etiopathogenisis of Periodontal Diseases, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, implantology, recent advances in periodontology, structured notes on anatomy and physiology etc. Defination with related diagram of many topics is asked in the paper every year.

Total Marks and time allotted:

Maximum marks which can be obtained in the paper are 100 and time allotted for the paper is 3 hours. Objective section is to be submitted within 20 minutes and marks in the section are 20 whereas Subjective part is to be submitted within 2 hours and 40 minutes and marks in the paper are 80.
