Pharmacy Technician – How to become a Pharmacy Technician?
Pharmacy Technicians are very much needed in hospital pharmacies as they are responsible for assisting the pharmacist in performing various significant tasks. They prepare the medications required for the patients and measure the ingredients. It is very necessary to label the containers having medicines so as to distinguish it from other materials. It is the duty of the Pharmacy Technicians to label the containers correctly.
They are also responsible for mixing the pharmaceutical ingredients under the guidance of pharmacists. They also perform certain administrative tasks apart from these clinical tasks. Their responsibilities comprises of answering phones, ordering supplies, maintaining patient’s record and billing information.
Qualifying Exam
Aspirants who want to become a Pharmacy Technician should complete their diploma course in Pharmacy. This two year course will enable them to acquire enough knowledge in pharmaceutical terminology, drug calculations and inventory management. This course also includes laboratory work which will impart practical knowledge to the aspirants. Those who complete this pharmacy course can easily get the job of Pharmacy Technician in hospital pharmacies or retail pharmacies.
Who are eligible to apply?
Those who have completed senior secondary education with Biology as one of the subjects can pursue Diploma in Pharmacy course. B.Sc graduates can also pursue this course if they have completed their graduation with the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics. Candidates can apply for the job of Pharmacy Technician right after completing their diploma course in pharmacy. They should browse through the advertisements to check whether there are any job openings for Pharmacy Technician. If they find any vacancy, then they can apply for the same. Candidates are employed only if the concerned firm is satisfied with their performance during the test and interview.
