To join in merchant navy , the candidate must have complete the 12th with physics, chemistry and maths..However, biology at 10+2 is an added advantage. There are also certain medical norms(physical fitness) that need to be met to get entry into the Marine Engineering courses. One should have a good physique with sound health. The minimum height should be 150 cms with correlated weight and proportionate chest with minimum 5 cm expansion.

Eligibility criteria for different course:-

*B.E Marine Engineering, Duration: 4 years; Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English..
**B.S.C Nautical Science, Duration: 3 years, Eligibility: 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English...

no it is not imp to pass exam but u have to more. in india many colleges r there who provides the course without imu enterance but cdc provided by the college is not indian.
u have to go abroad for your pramostional exams like 2nd mate and mate.

hi dear your plan is good for ur future u r join :
eligibility for merchant navy is 12th + entrance (IIT)
you are definately eligible after b.tech.
but better if you try once before taking admission.
if you clear the entrance than you would be getting after your 12th.

Cargo ships – which carries cargo in solid, liquid and gaseous forms
Specialized ships

For getting into Merchant Navy you need to be Qualified in the Entrance Exam.

The Eligibility for getting into Merchant Navy :

The Qualification process is based on educational, qualification, age, and physical standards.

You should have passed 10 and 12 standard or a Diploma holder with a minimum mark of 55% from any recognized board of education.

If applying after 12th standard your age must not be less than 20, and in case of any graduate your age must not be more than 22.

There is an age relaxation available for female (2 yrs) and SC/ST /OBC (5 yrs) candidates.

The eyesight should be 6/6 in each eye without any visual problem.

Merchant Navy Details:



Merchant Navy is a non combat fleet which is a programme of transporting cargo's,tankers and occasionally passengers through sea.

The three major tasks to be performed in Merchant navy are in the Deck,Engine and catering.
