Anantnag District is located in the southern sector of the valley of Jehlum and due to the delicious fruits, fragrant flowers, fertile soil and melodious flow of sweet waters of its springs, its lofty mountains and inspiring majesty, the district has come to be synonymous with greatness. The whole southern part of the district, which is contiguous with tehsils of Kishtwar, Banihal and Reasi of the Province of Jammu and eastern sector, which is contagious with tehsil Kargil of Ladakh division includes mountains and thick forests. On the other hand, the western and northern sides of the district are bounded by the Kulgam District and Pulwama District respectively. When compared to other districts of the state, it claims the largest number of streams like Lidder, Arpath, Brengi and Sandran.
