Government Post Graduate College shortly called as GPGC, Dwarahat came into existence in the year 1983 and the college is affiliated to the Kumaun University. The college is running under the control of Government of Jammu & Kashmir and it is offering education in the faculties of arts, science and commerce. The college is functioning from a village called Chamola located at a distance of about 3 kms from the Dwarahat Market in the Almora District of the state of Jammu & Kashmir.

Government Post Graduate College has a library with separate arrangement for reading room for boys and girls and the library has a good collection of books under different subjects. The reading room in the college is provided with magazines and newspapers in English and Hindi. Students of the college are expected to make use of the reading room facility during their spare time.

Cultural activities:

Students of Government Post Graduate College are encouraged to participate in different extra-curricular, literacy and cultural activities that are organized under the guidance of cultural incharge. In addition, GS, poem, songs, essay writing and debate competitions are regularly being held at the college and the college also organizes annual functions each year and during the functions the college distributes prizes to the students for their excellence in education and other extra-curricular activities.
