The foundation course is one of the preliminary steps that have to be cleared in order to qualify as a company secretary. The duration of the foundation course is eight months. The paper on economics and statistics provides a basic overview about the economy of India along with various numerical approaches.

Syllabus of this Paper

The paper as the name suggests has two modules: economics and statistics.

The economics part has the following subtopics to be studied: nature and scope of economics, demand and supply analysis, production cost and value analysis, Market Forms and Equilibrium of the Firm and Industry, basic characteristics of Indian economy, money and banking, economic reforms and liberalization.

The statistics part has the following subheads: collection and measurement of statistical data, measurement of central tendency, dispersion, correlation analysis, index numbers and time series analysis.

Number of sections in this Paper

There are two sections in this paper, one for economics and the other for statistics.

Paper Pattern and Number of Questions Asked

There are a total of eight questions that are asked, out of which, candidates are required to answer only six questions. The first section has questions on economics and has a total of four questions. The first question has to be necessarily answered and candidates have to choose two questions out of the remaining three questions. The second section has questions on economics and has the same pattern as section one (i.e. candidates have to necessarily answer the first question of the section and choose two from the remaining three questions).

Division of Marks

The entire paper is of hundred marks having two sections of fifty marks each. The first question of each section is of twenty marks and the remaining two questions are of fifteen marks each, hence adding up to a total of fifty marks for each section.

Duration of this Paper

The maximum time allotted for this paper is three hours.
