Aspirants can join the technical department of the Indian Army after the successful completion of the Technical Graduate course offered by the Indian Army. Candidates will be selected in lieu of the stipulated vacancies. Eligibility criteria concerning educational qualification, nationality, age limit and physical standards will have to be met by candidates. Joining the Indian Army Technical Department offers candidate a good pay scale and other allowances.

Eligibility Requirements

Posts under the Technical department of the Indian Army are open only to male candidates. Only candidates with an Engineering degree, serving personnel’s at the Indian Army, Navy, Territorial or Regular army are eligible to apply. Central or State government servants are also eligible to apply.

Candidates should be a citizen of India. Candidates who are a subject of Nepal or Bhutan are also eligible to apply. Candidates of Tibetan origin with an Indian domicile can apply for the post. Migrants from Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and East African countries like United Republic of Tanzania, Kenya, Zambi, Uganda, Zaire Vietnam, Ethopia and Malawai of an Indian origin are also eligible to apply. However an eligibility certificate issued by the Government of India is required for those candidates mentioned above who are not Indian citizens.

The Indian Army specifies physical requirements in its eligibility criteria, which requires candidates to be fit physically and mentally. Candidates should have a minimum height of 157.5 cms with corresponding weight, with a relaxation of 5 cms for candidates from North East and hilly areas like Assamese, Garhwalis, Nepalese and Gorkhas   and 2 cms relaxation for candidates from Lakshadweep. Myopia and astigmatism should not be more than minus 3.5. Distant vision for better eye should be 6/6 and that of worse eye 6/18. Candidates who have undergone Lasik Surgery or Radial Karatotomy are not eligible to apply.

The age limit for Engineering graduates and Military Farm candidates is between 20 to 27 years and that for the Army Education Crops is 23 to 27 years.

Selection Procedure

The application to the posts in the technical department should be done online through the site www.joinindianarmy.nic.in.  Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria will be intimated to appear for the selection procedure at the various selection centers.

Selection happens in two stages which will be based on Psychological Aptitude Test. Candidates who qualify for the first stage are required to undergo the remaining tests.

Candidates have to further qualify for the SSB interview and they will be shortlisted by the selection service board.

Recommended candidates have to undergo the medical tests prescribed by a Board of Medical Officers.

Candidates selected for the Technical graduate course will have to complete the Pre commissioning training after which successful candidates will be inducted to the Indian Army’s technical department.
