Defence Institute of Advanced Technology was initially started as the Institute of Armament Studies in the year 1952. It is a deemed university situated in Girinagar, Pune. The institute comes under the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The institute was awarded with the status of the Deemed University in the year 2000. The institute offers eight post graduate courses which includes Chemical Technology, Air Armament Engineering, Modeling and Simulation etc.
